This book traces an English teak wallah's life journey, an adventure that bridged three continents. While serving as a biography, the book provides a broader historical context. It examines the influences of European forestry firms in northern Siam’s teak industry of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In particular, it explores the social interactions between these European foresters and the diverse range of indigenous peoples for whom Lanna was ‘home’.
